History:
The Kuta lot comes from a dedicated group of smallholder farmers in Papua
New Guinea's Upper Wagi Valley, Western Highlands, with processing and
export overseen by Rilke Limited. Grown at 1,600 meters under shade and
within designated conservation areas, this lot features a mix of Bourbon,
Typica, Caturra, Catimor, and Arushia varieties.
Cherries are fully washed at the Kuta Wet Mill using a meticulous three-stage washing process, then sun-dried and conditioned at the Kuta Dry Mill. Final processing includes density sorting, size grading, color sorting, and hand selection to ensure consistent
quality. Harvested from March through September, with a smaller fly crop
in December or January, this coffee reflects the care and precision of its
producers.
Kuta’s community investment is equally impressive, with initiatives such as classroom construction, annual distribution of 25,000– 30,000 seedlings, and a profit-share model for registered farmers. Environmental efforts include composting coffee pulp for mulch, vermiculture for seedling soil, and a five-dam water treatment system that reflects a deep commitment to sustainable practices.
